Texas State Closes Out Homestand Tuesday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (7-1) closes out its nine-game homestand on Tuesday against UTRGV. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
 
Fans can catch the game on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Ty Harrington on the call. The game will also be broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM and live stats will be available as well.

Wednesday: TXST: RHP Trevis Sundgren (1-0) vs. UTRGV: Deryk Serbantez (First Start)
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Leading the Bobcat at the plate is Cameron Gibbons and Dalton Shuffield with a .433 and .423 batting averages, respectively. Shuffield paces the team with 10 runs and nine RBI. His three stolen bases are tied for the most on the team with Jose Gonzalez, Justin Thompson and John Wuthrich. Others hitting .300 or better are Gonzalez (.304), Thompson (.300) and Wuthrich (.344).
 
Slated to start on Wednesday is Trevis Sundgren, who is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. In his first start of the season on Thursday, he pitched five scoreless innings against Wichita State and struck out four.
 
ABOUT UTRGV
The Vaqueros won their first five games of the season with a sweep of George Washington and two wins over Texas Southern. On Sunday, UTRGV dopped both games of a doubleheader at Houston.
 
Brandon Pimentel is hitting a team-high .462. He also leads the team with three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored. Only other regular hitting over .300 is Freddy Rojas, Jr. at .348.
 
Slated to start on the rubber is Deryk Serbantez. The right-hander will be making his season debut. Last season saw the senior go 3-2 with two saves, a 5.74 ERA, 34 strikeouts and 23 walks in 31.1 innings spanning 16 games, including four starts. One of those starts came against TXST in which he allowed two runs on four walks and struck out four in 2.2 innings.
 
SERIES VS. VAQUEROS
Texas State leads the all-time series 46-25 over UTRGV. At home, the Bobcats hold a 26-7 advantage but dropped the last meeting at Bobcat Ballpark on Apr. 10, 2018 in 10 innings by a 2-1 score. Last time the teams played on the same diamond was Apr. 6, 2021 in Edinburg that saw the Bobcats win 7-4.
