SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State Athletics Department presented Academic Excellence Awards to 134 student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher during the 2020 spring or fall semesters or both semesters.
 
Fifty-three student-athletes received a Star of Excellence award for earning a 4.0 GPA in the spring or fall semesters or both.
 
Earning a Star of Excellence award were baseball players Cameron Bush, Zachary Leigh, Peyton Lewis, Matthew Nicholas, and Jared Younce; women's basketball players Avionne Alexander, Presley Bennett, Sierra Dickson, Tianna Eaton, Chelsea Johnson, Gabby Standifer, and Kennedy Taylor; football players Nic Foster and Jaquel Pierce; men's golfer Terrin Anderson; women's golfers Noramol Nuchsila, Sasikarn Somboonsup, and Halle Whitney; soccer players Sarah Everett, Addison Gaetano, Sydney Kammer, Ally Kewish, Bailey Peschel, Jessica Pikoff, Hannah Solano, Holly Streber, Kayla Streber, Avery Thies, Karlee Torisk, and Kamaria Williams; softball players ArieAnn Bell, Meagan King, Raina Lange, Hailey MacKay, Tara Oltmann, and Natalia Reeves; tennis players Hana Kvapilova, Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez, and Nikita Pradeep; men's track and field athletes Brandon Busby, Ben Collerton, Travian Holst, and Pedro Osorio Lopez; women's track and field athletes Tina Douglas, Daphne Duran, Alexandra Headley, Daniela Wisniewski, and Victoria Wright; and volleyball players Emily DeWalt, Kayla Granado, Courtney Heiser, Brooke Johnson, Tessa Marshall,
 
Another 81 student-athletes earned an Academic Excellence Award for having a 3.5-3.9 GPA during one or both semesters.
 
Those receiving an academic achievement certificate were baseball players Reece Gould, Garrett Herrmann, Cade Medlin, Tucker Redden, Austin Smith, and Zeke Wood; football players Russell Baker, Jacob Bates, Kenny Frazier, Micah Hilts, Seth Keller, David Nunez,  Alan Orona, Eddie Rivas, Dotson Schaefer, Chandler Speights, Brock Sturges, Peyton Tuggle, and Tyler Vitt;  men's basketball players  Nate Martin, Quentin Scott, Alonzo Sule , Drew Tennial, and Addison Wallace;  women's basketball players Ja'Kayla Bowie and  Nicole Leff; men's golfers  Logan Lockwood, Kasper Nyland, Andrew Rodriguez, Fabian Sunden, Ben Swaffield, and Evan White; women's golfers Matilda Cederholm,  Junia Gabasa, Alejandra Lobelo, and Geraldine Wong; soccer players  Kiara Gonzales, Emma Jones, Gabie Jones, Alyssa Price, Lindsey Salisbury, and Haley Shaw; softball players Sydney Belvin, Marisa Cruz, Molly Damiani, Baylee Lemons, Tori McCann, Jessica Mullins, Piper Randolph, and Sara Vanderford; tennis players Andrea Fuchs,  Renata Gonzalez, and Chacadyah Israel-Lewis; men's track and field athletes  Myles Anders, Justin Botello, Noah Chokri, Johen Deleon, Nicholas Mosqueda, James Noles, Dylan Pitts, Donald Rolle, and Isaac Sadzewicz;  women's track and field athletes Ariana Ealy-Pulido,  Kattiana Ealy-Pulido, Jada Fleming, Esmeralda Fuentes, Jada Glispie, Chermariea Hardy, Paige Kimble, Jordan Perry, Lauren Purdom, Aubrey Schmidt, D'anna Smith, Katherine Stuckly, Mya Wells, and Sedrickia Wynn; and volleyball players  Caitlan Buettner, Michelle Foster, Kenedi Rutherford, Kayla Tello, and Lauren Teske.
 
The women's golf team earned the Emmett Shelton Award for having the highest women's team GPA with 3.788, and the men's golf team earned the Emmett Shelton Award for having the highest men's team GPA with a combined 3.099.
 
Decathlete Ben Collerton and soccer player Holly Streber earned the Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year Awards. Women's golfer Sasikarn Somboonsup won the Jean Smith Award and baseball player Tucker Redden won the Outstanding Male Post-Graduate Award
 
An additional 70 student-athletes earned between a 3.0 and 3.49 in the 2020 spring or fall semester.  These numbers also do not include 34 graduates who met one or both benchmarks.
