Baseball Starts Road Swing at Texas A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A five-game road swing begins for Texas State (17-24) on Tuesday with a trip to Texas A&M (23-19) on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Blue Bell Park.
 
The game will be streamed on SEC Network+ along with a radio broadcast on KTSW 89.9 FM with Brant Freeman and Clint Shields on the call. Live stats will also be available for the contest.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Tuesday: Austin Smith (2-2, 4.79 ERA) vs. Jonathan Childress (2-4, 4.17 ERA)
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats claimed its third Sun Belt Conference series over the weekend against Arkansas State. TXST won the first two games with the second game seeing Justin Thompson hit a walk-off double for a 6-5 victory. Cole Coffey hit a home run in each contest and plated six runs in the series. Coming back after missing the previous 35 games due to injury was John Wuthrich as he went 1-for-4 in each contest and scored the game-winning run Saturday.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Justin Thompson leads Texas State with a .308 batting average, 48 hits, 24 runs scored and 33 RBI. With his three homers this weekend, Cole Coffey now paces the team with seven while plating 17 runs. Chase Evans has hit safely in 10 of the last 11 games and has moved into the leadoff spot in the order.
 
Austin Smith will be making his first career start Tuesday. The left-hander is 2-2 with a 4.79 ERA and 17 strikeouts over 20.2 innings spanning 15 relief appearances.
 
ABOUT TEXAS A&M
Texas A&M is coming off having lost two of three at home to then No. 6 Tennessee over the weekend. The Aggies sport a 17-10 record at home with a 7-2 mark in midweek games.
 
Will Frizzell leads the squad with a .335 batting average, 52 hits, 35 RBI, 33 runs scored, 13 home runs and nine doubles. He has also drawn 24 walks and sports a .422 on-base percentage.
 
Austin Bost has driven in 27 runs with nine doubles and seven home runs while hitting .321. Ray Alejo is also batting over .300 at .316 and has stolen 11 bases.
 
Slated to start on the rubber is Jonathan Childress. The left-hander is 2-4 with a 4.17 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 41 innings. In his first outing against Texas State this season, he allowed two runs on two hits and struck out six in 4.1 innings.
 
Chandler Jozwiak sports a team-low ERA of 2.86. He has appeared in 20 games out of the bullpen, going 1-3 with six saves and 68 strikeouts over 44 innings. Also making 20 relief appearances has been Alex Magers, who is 2-1 and has a 3.32 ERA.
 
SERIES VS. THE AGGIES
TAMU leads the all-time series 45-14 after winning the first meeting this season on Apr. 13 in San Marcos 8-4. Last time the teams met in College Station, TXST won 5-3 on Apr. 9, 2019 with all five of the Bobcats' runs coming in the first inning and was capped off by a grand slam from Wuthrich.
 
Texas State are 9-32 all-time when playing the Aggies on the road.
