Bowie tabbed to All-Sun Belt Tournament Team

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Texas State junior guard Ja'Kayla Bowie was one of five players selected to the 2021 Sun Belt All-Tournament Team, the league announced.

"That's what dedication and hard work looks like and I'm not just talking about basketball," said Texas State women's basketball head coach Zenarae Antoine. "To say I'm proud of her is an understatement. Ja'Kayla has EARNED ever academic and athletic award she has received. It's a GREAT DAY to be a Bobcat!"

Bowie, in two conference tournament games, averaged 21.0 points on 70 percent shooting (16-23) in 29.5 minutes a game. She shot 50.0 percent from behind the 3-point arc and 1.000 percent from the free throw line in both games. She pulled down seven total rebounds and was credited with eight assists and five steals.

In Texas State's record-breaking win over Georgia Southern, Bowie set a then-career-high with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in just 25 minutes of game time. The following day, she returned to the court and scored a career-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting against the eventual Sun Belt Conference tournament champions, Troy.

Her 23-point performance against the Trojans put her in elite company as she became one of just six players in program history to score 20-more points in a Sun Belt Conference tournament game. Her 23 points tied her with Ashley Ezeh (vs. Georgia State on March 12, 2014) for the third-most points by a Bobcat in a Sun Belt Conference tournament game.
