In the USA Today poll, the Bobcats were one of two Sun Belt Conference teams that received votes with Coastal Carolina earning 34 points. Also picking up three votes in the poll were Southern Miss and UNC Wilmington.

The coaches poll featured three ranked teams that Texas State will face this season in TCU (#11), Texas (#10) and Texas Tech (#4). Opponents that received votes were Baylor, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

First pitch of the season for the Bobcats takes place Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. against BYU at Bobcat Ballpark.
