NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Friday that
Brandon Busby earned 2020-21 Indoor Track and Field Men's Field Most Outstanding Performer in a vote of league coaches, and 18 Bobcats garnered All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Busby was the Men's Field Performer of the Year after winning the shot put (16.75m/54' 11.50") and the weight throw (19.64m/64' 5.25") at the 2021 Sun Belt Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 22-23.
He is joined on the All-Sun Belt Conference Men's First Team by
Pedro Osorio Lopez,
Taahir Kelly,
Bervensky Pierre and
Jaylen Allen.
Dias Redmond II,
Ben Collerton,
Johen Deleon,
Avery Veiseh,
Alphonso Tyler II, and
Justin Botello are on the Second Team, while
Kwanele Mthembu and
Ronnie Briscoe are on the Third Team.
Katherine Stuckly and
Shelby Smith were All-Sun Belt Conference Women's First-Team selections.
Mckenzie Pearson and
Mathilde Canet are on the Second Team, while
Chermariea Hardy,
Christine Irving,
Paige Kimble, and
Breanna Clark are on the Third Team.
Osorio Lopez set a Sun Belt Conference record when he won the 800-meter dash
(1:50.65). He teamed with Kelly, Pierre, and Allen to win the 4x400-meter relay (3:15.12).
Redmond II was second in the shot put (15.68m/51' 5.50") and Collerton had the second-highest score in the heptathlon with 5,348 points. Deleon, Veisehl, Tyler and Botello finished second in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:13.63.
Mthembu and Briscoe had a third-place finishes in the 5,000 meters (14:40.31) and long jump (7.31m/23' 11.75") respectively.
Stuckly won her second consecutive women's high jump title with a career-best clearance and one of the nation's top 15 heights (1.81m/5'11.25"). Smith was the women's long jump champion (6.14 meters/20' 1.75").
Canet finished second in the pentathlon with a school-record score of 3,831 points, while Pearson placed second in the triple jump (12.46m/40' 10.50").
Hardy finished third in the 400 meters (55.92 seconds) and teamed with Irving, Kimble, and Clark to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:49.13).
