SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (3-2) makes a nearly 2,400-mile trek to the capital of California for a three-game series with WAC preseason favorite Sacramento State (1-2) this weekend. A doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT and Sunday's finale starts at 1 p.m. CT with all three games taking place at John Smith Field.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Texas State is coming off a 5-4 win over Sam Houston State at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Wednesday.
Justin Thompson drove in three runs including the go-ahead scores in the seventh. He leads the Sun Belt Conference and is tied for fifth in the nation with 10 RBI. The junior infielder paces the Bobcats with a .467 batting average, seven hits, .500 OB% and .600 SLG%.

Tristan Stivors is one of six Bobcat relievers that have not allowed an earned run this season. He, along with

ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
Sacramento State opened the season by stunning then 15-ranked Arizona State 4-2 behind a grand slam from Dawsen Bacho. The Hornets would drop the next two games to the Sun Devils 2-1 and 3-1. Sac State were one of three teams, along with Grand Canyon and UT Rio Grande Valley, to win the conference title. This weekend will be the Hornets' home opener and one of two non-conference home games with the other being against San Francisco on May 15.

Aaron Zeldman leads the team with a .571 average (4-for-7) and .714 slugging percentage. Jorge Bojorquez is hitting .250. Other than Bacho, the only other players to drive in a run has been Hunter Dorraugh and Dylan McPhillips.

Slated to take the rubber in game one is Scott Randall. The WAC's Preseason Pitcher of the Year recorded six strikeouts in five innings in the season opener. Following him on Saturday will be Travis Adams, who is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work.

Eli Saul is scheduled start the finale. The righty comes in 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and four strikeouts in four innings.

Stone Churby picked up the save in the season opener. For the year, he has made two appearances totaling two innings and three strikeouts. Jake Zalasky is second on the team with five strikeouts while Brady Rodriguez has made two appearances out of the bullpen where he has thrown three scoreless frames and struck out one.

Last season saw the Hornets lead the NCAA in strikeouts per walk (6.76) and fewest walks per nine innings (1.32).

SERIES VS. HORNETS
This weekend will be the second-ever meeting between the Bobcats and Hornets. They first met in 2013 when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. The series took place in Sacramento and saw Sac State win all three contests.

TXST VS. THE WAC
Texas State has played five of the current 10 members of the WAC. The most games (69) and wins (45) have come against UT Rio Grande Valley. The Bobcats have winning records against New Mexico State (4-1) and Seattle (3-0), while also playing a contest in 1988 against Tarleton State. Only teams TXST has yet to play from the conference are California Baptist, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, Northern Colorado and Utah Valley.
