SAN MARCOS, Texas – It was announced today that Werner's Catering will be the title sponsor for Texas State baseball's 2022 Leadoff Dinner. Current Washington Nationals and former Bobcat pitcher Kyle Finnegan will be the speaker at the dinner that is scheduled for Jan. 29.

Finnegan just completed his second season with the Nationals where he posted a 5-9 record with 3.55 ERA and 68 strikeouts over 66.0 innings. The right-hander served as the team's closer over the last two months of the campaign and finished with 11 saves. In the shortened 2020 season, he was 1-0 with a 2.95 ERA and struck out 27. Finnegan made his Major League debut by throwing a scoreless inning of relief against the New York Yankees.

At Texas State, Finnegan won 11 games, posted one save and recorded 143 strikeouts over 42 games. He struck out a career-high 75 and had a 3.28 ERA in 93.1 innings over 15 games including 14 starts. Following Finnegan's junior season, he was drafted in the sixth round by the Oakland Athletics.

The dinner will be held at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom on the campus of Texas State University. The cocktail social mixer begins at 6:15 p.m. with the dinner portion of the event starting at 7 p.m.

The 2022 season begins Feb. 18 with a four-game series at Bobcat Ballpark against Utah Valley.
