FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Texas State men's and women's cross country teams had a pair of top 10 finishes at the Arkansas Chile Pepper Festival Friday afternoon at the Arkansas Cross Country Course.
Kwanele Mthembu finished in fifth place with a time of 23:52.1 to lead the men's team to a 10th place finish in the John McConnell Memorial men's eight-kilometer race.
Jessica Myers placed seventh with a time of 19:02.2 to lead the women's cross country team to a sixth-place finish in the Women's Prairie Fire Pepper Five-Kilometer race.
Top-ranked NCAA Division II, Colorado School of Mines, totaled 39 points (3-4-7-12-13) to win the men's race ahead of Division II No. 4- ranked Augustana College (131 points), and No. 18-Division II-ranked Western Colorado (178 points).
The host school, Division I No. 10-ranked Arkansas, and No. 8 Division II Alabama-Huntsville tied for fourth place with 192 points. LSU finished in sixth place with 235 points, ahead of Oklahoma City's 297 points, and Central Arkansas with 305 points. Nebraska finished in ninth place with 346 points, and Texas State finished in 10th place with 350 points in a field that includes 36 teams.
Zouhair Talbi of Oklahoma City was the individual medalist with a time of 23:28.5, and Myles Richter of Arkansas was the runner-up with a time of 23:33.5. Dillon Powell of the Colorado Mines was third with 23:39.7. Dylan Ko of the Colorado Mines finished in fourth place with a time of 23:44.0, and Mthembu finished in fifth place
Pedro Osorio Lopez finished 50th overall in a time of 25:12.5, and
Justin Botello was 79th with a time of 25:31.1.
Travian Holst had a time of 26:00.0, and
A.J. Tyler II finished with the time of 26:34.3.
Hastings College won the women's Prairie Fire Pepper five-kilometer race with 90 points, while Oklahoma Christian netted second with 91 points. Harding finished in third place with 117 points, Missouri S&T had 145 points, and Cloud County tallied 175 points. Texas State totaled 181 points to finish in sixth place out of 30 teams in the race.
Megan Ombres had a time of 19:28.3 to finish in the top 20, and Angi Lujan was 27
th with a time of 19:43.8.
Kenya Bailey of Oklahoma Christian won the race in 17:55.6. Johanna Wistokat of Christian Brothers was the runner-up in 18:03.3, and Nieves Megias of Harding was third in 18:22.6. Jazmin Chacon of McMurry posted the fourth-fastest time of 18:49.5, edging Anna Wilgenbusch of Dallas, who had a time of 18:50.1. Shania Santos of Hastings College had the sixth-fastest time of 18:54.1 to finish ahead of Myers.
Daniela Wisniewski placed 59th in the race with a time of 20:40.1, and
Olivia Johnson had a time of 21:18.3 to place 89th.
