BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Texas State track and field teams opened the 2021 indoor season with three victories and the top collegiate mark in two other events at the UAB Vulcan Invitational on Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Overall, the Bobcats had 16 of the Sun Belt's top 10 performances this season.
Anayah Washington won the long jump with 5.65 meters (18-6.50) and had the fastest time in the meet with 60 meters with 7.57 seconds. Her time is second, and her jump ranks third among Sun Belt Conference leaders.
Texas State's 4x400-meter relay team of

Chermariea Hardy, Washington, and
Breanna Clark had the best collegiate time at the meet and the best time in the Sun Belt this season with 3:53.27.
Sedrickia Wynn won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78 seconds, the fourth-fastest in the Sun Belt this season.
Lauryn Small won the weight throw with 16.94 meters (55-7.00) and had the third-best mark in the Sun Belt.
Four Bobcats finished in second place at the Vulcan Invite.
Brandon Busby was the runner-up in both the men's shot put (15.79m, 51-9.75) and men's weight throw (18.51m, 60-8.75). He ranks third among Sun Belt leaders in both events this season.
Alexandra Headley finished in second place in the women's shot put (13.10m, 42-11.75). Her mark ranks eighth in the Sun Belt.
Another newcomer,
Simon Thor, had a second-place showing in the pole vault after clearing 4.85 meters (15-11). His clearance is fourth in the Sun Belt.
Texas State also had four third-place finishes at the Vulcan Invitational on Saturday.
Pedro Osorio Lopez placed third in the men's mile run with a time of 4:14.44. His time ranks third among Sun Belt leaders, and
Alphonso Tyler II had a time of 4:23.66, which is seventh in the Sun Belt.
Noah Chokri had a third-place finish in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.95 meters (22-09.75), the fifth-best jump in the Sun Belt.
Alexa Valenzuela finished third in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.43 meters (17-09.75), and that is ninth among Sun Belt leaders.
Clark had the Sun Belt's second-fastest time in the 800 meters with 2:19.59.
Myles Anders had the league's sixth-fastest time of 6.93 seconds in the 60-meters, while
Christine Irving had the Sun Belt's fifth-fastest time of 25.43 seconds in the 200 meters.
Kwanele Mthembu had a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meters with the Sun Belt's sixth-fastest time of 8:31.69.
Justin Botello had a seventh-place finish in the race with the league's ninth-best time with 8:37.51.
Esmeralda Fuentes had the Sub Belt's 10 -fastest time in the women's 3000 meters with 10:30.46.
Ben Collerton returns after sitting out last season and had the Sun Belt's sixth-highest jump after clearing 1.95 meters (6-4-.75) in the high jump and the ninth-fastest time of 8.37 seconds.
Garvin Tolbert also had 6.77 meters (22-2.50) in the long jump to rank eighth among Sun Belt leaders.
Dias Redmond II had a sixth-place finish in the weight throw and ranked sixth in the Sun Belt with a mark of 15.54 meters in the weight throw.
James Noles ranks seventh in both the shot put and weight throw with 14.41 meters (47-3.50) and 15.28 meters (50-1.75), respectively. He finished in seventh place in both events at the UAB Invitational.
Texas State returns to action on Jan. 23 when the Bobcats travel to the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.
