SAN MARCOS, Texas – A preview of the goalkeeper position of the 2020 Texas State soccer team.
Â
This season, head coach
Kat Conner is in a situation she has only been in once before in having no goalkeepers on the roster with previous collegiate experience. The only other time in program history was the inaugural season in 1999.
Â
Competing for playing time between the posts are freshmen
Beth Agee and
Abby Lucksinger.
Â
"It's replanting the seeds to build a championship foundation," said Conner. "We are instilling a good work ethic and attitude. Then just try to get them to understand the pace that it is at this level."
Â
Agee was named to the 2020 TASCO Region 1-6A First Team her senior year. The Mansfield, Texas native recorded a 17-3-1 record in goal with 15 shutouts. She posted a 0.11 GAA with 107 save and a .880 save percentage. In her three-year starting career at Mansfield High School, Agee had a 60-5-5 record and 43 shutouts.
Â
Lucksinger, a Belton High School graduate, was an All-District 12-6A First Team selection as a junior. That year she helped the Tigers to an 18-5-3 record and claim their third straight bi-district title. Her senior season saw her split time between playing midfielder and goalkeeper.
Â
The duo is replacing
Heather Martin. She ended her Texas State career setting new program marks in GAA (0.73) and save percentage (.858). The recent graduate also set the TXST season mark for GAA (0.45) and save percentage (.919) in 2018 and followed with the second-best for a campaign in both categories (0.47 GAA; .893 save %) as a senior.
