Box Score 2 WACO, TEXAS – The Texas State softball team (8-5) found themselves in a pair of pitching duels on the second day of the Baylor Invitational on Saturday at Getterman Stadium. The Bobcats fell 4-0 against No. 17/15 Minnesota (7-6) after the Golden Gophers scored three unearned runs and hit a home run in their last at bat. In the second game, Texas State was tied at 1-1 before Baylor (12-2) scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
GAME ONE
After Texas State's
Tori McCann and Minnesota's Amber Fiser held both teams without a run for the first four innings, Minnesota took advantage of a pair of throwing errors to score three unearned runs to take an insurmountable 3-0 lead in the game.
Minnesota's Brooke Vander Heide scored the first unearned run after a pair of throwing errors. First, she advanced to third after a throwing error on MaKenna Partain's single to third base. Then, she crossed home plate when Carlie Brandt reached first base on an error by the shortstop. After Minnesota loaded the bases on a walk, Delilah Barrera came in for McCann and struck out two batters. However, Sydney Strelow lined a single down the left-field line to drive in two more runs.
Texas State had a chance to tie things up in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Molly Damiani singled through the right side, and Bailey Carter walked. However, the Bobcats couldn't score as
Christiana McDowell struck out,
Sara Vanderford popped up to third base, and
Hailey MacKay hit a fly ball to deep center to end the threat.
The Golden Gophers scored their final run in the top of the seventh inning when Natalie Denhartog hit a solo home run to right field.
GAME 2
Texas State found itself in another pitcher's duel when the Bobcats and Baylor (12-2) both scored a run in the first inning and didn't score again until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Texas State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Christiana McDowell drew a walk, stole second, and scored on a single by
ArieAnn Bell.
Baylor answered with its first run when Kyla Walker doubled and came around to score on a single by Josie Bower.
The two teams remained tied until the bottom of the seventh inning when Aliyah Pritchett led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by Ana Watches. Pritchett scored when Gilbert hit a single into left field.

Texas State plays its final game in the tournament when the Bobcats battle Tulsa (8-4) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
