Trip to College Station and 12th-Ranked Aggies Await Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Coming off its second walk-off win of the season, the Texas State baseball team hits the road this week beginning with a trip to 10th-ranked Texas A&M on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Bell Park.
 
Coming into the game, the Bobcats are 20-12 on the season while the Aggies are 25-8-1 overall.
 
The game will be streamed on the SEC Network+. Both Bill Culhane and Brant Freeman will have the radio call on KTSW 89.9 FM and live stats will also be available.
 
Probable Starting Pitchers
Tuesday: TXST RHP Garrett Herrmann (3-1, 3.41 ERA) vs. TAMU LHP Dustin Saenz (2-0, 2.84 ERA)
 
Scouting Texas State
Texas State dropped the weekend series to Troy but salvaged the series finale with an 8-7 win in 10 innings thanks to John Wuthrich's walk-off single. The Bobcats enter the game 5-2 in midweek games this season and have won their last two over Rice (7-6) and UTSA (14-1).
 
Five batters are hitting over .300 led by Jaylen Hubbard at .339. The senior third baseman also paces the team with 43 hits, four triples and 10 hit by pitches. He has also scored 31 times, driven in 18 runs and stolen six bases.
 
After going 8-for-13 against the Trojans, Dalton Shuffield raised his batting average to .336. He paces the squad with seven stolen bases and is second with 41 hits. Travon Benton also had strong outings at the plate going 5-for-11 to enter the game batting .333. The senior outfielder has hit three home runs, recorded 13 RBIs and scored 14 times.
 
Will Hollis (.314) and Jaxon Williams (.317) are the last two Bobcats with a batting average over .300. Hollis leads the team with 27 walks and nine doubles, and is second with 22 RBIs. Williams comes in with a team-high 34 runs scored and is second with four homers.
 
Pacing the TXST with five home runs and 24 RBIs is Skyler Valentine. He has scored 21 runs and is 5-for-6 stealing bases.
 
Scheduled to start on the mound Tuesday is Garrett Herrmann. The junior right-hander will be making his seventh midweek start of the year. He enters with a 3-1 record, 3.41 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 29.0 innings.
 
Scouting Texas A&M
Texas A&M is coming off a 2-2 week in which they defeated LSU and Texas once apiece. The Aggies are 17-5-1 at home and will be playing their first games at Blue Bell Park since the last weekend of March against Missouri, a series that was split 1-1-1.
 
Braden Shewmake leads the team with a .326 batting average, 46 hits, 32 RBIs, five sacrifice flies and four triples. He is also one of three players with seven doubles along with Logan Foster and Mikey Hoehner. The duo of Foster and Hoehner have 36 hits apiece.
 
Cam Blake is the fourth Aggie hitting over .300 at .301. Of his 25 hits, six have been doubles and one has gone for a triple.
 
Bryce Blaum is 11-for-12 stealing bases and has hit a team leading four home runs. He has scored 38 times and plated 14 runs.
 
The probable starter for tomorrow is Dustin Saenz. The sophomore left-hander is 2-0 with one save, 2.84 ERA and 13 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .287 off him spanning 10 games including four starts.
 
All-Time Series
Texas A&M leads the all-time series 44-13 and have won five straight meetings. Last season saw the Aggies win 7-5 in College Station.
 
The last win for Texas State was on Apr. 23, 2013 by the score of 4-1 at Bobcat Ballpark. The Bobcats are 8-32 when playing TAMU on the road with the last victory being a 5-1 contest on Apr. 11, 2006.
