SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team will play in the UTRGV Women's Invitational hosted by UTRGV. TXST won this event a season ago by 21 strokes. Play will begin with 36 holes on a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT on March 11. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on March 12.
"We are looking forward to a new experience," head coach
Lisa Strom said. "This will be our first time being the defending champions. We love the golf course, the greens are typically in great shape, and the team is really turning the corner with their ball striking. The key to success will be managing ourselves around the golf course with smart decisions. We have battled some illness this week, but as the saying goes, "beware of the sick golfer." Many times, expectations dip down a bit when you are not feeling 100 percent and you get out of your own way."
"I am excited for Aom to defend her title as well," Strom said. "Honestly, I think anyone in our lineup could win the golf tournament. It is not overly long, so that plays favorably for Geraldine and Sean. Our wedge work over the past few weeks will certainly be a factor in scoring."

AOM-ING FOR THE WIN
Somboonsup, better known as Aom by her teammates, has won four events since joining the Bobcats prior to the 2016-17 season. She is the only TXST women's golfer to win multiple events in two different seasons. Her last victory came at this very tournament on March 6, 2018.
GETTING MORA AT THE TOP
Mora, a senior, has been a force in the Bobcat lineup over the last three seasons. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Mora has placed inside the top-25 a total of 15 times and has six top-10 finishes and three top-5 finishes to her credit. She has had every round of her career count for the team score.
WHITE DOWN THE MIDDLE
White has been a welcomed addition from Western Michigan. She has four top-25 finishes, two top-10 finishes, and two top-5 finishes. During the 2017-18 season she tied a single-season Texas State record with four eagles.
CARRYING THE BAG
The Texas State women's golf program is dedicating the 2018-19 season to former Texas State graduate student Darryn Deen Andrews, a United States Army 2nd Lieutenant killed after his unit was ambushed while serving in Pakitika Province, Afghanistan on Sept. 4, 2009. In every tournament this season, a Bobcat will carry a special bag to honor 2nd Lieutenant Andrews. White will carry the bag at the Texas State Invitational.
"Sarah battled through some mental challenges in some drills at practice this week and conquered them," Strom said. "She had to push pause, get her mind right, and take action. Darryn would be proud of her for that."
LAST TIME OUT
Texas State was defeated in match-play against the Texas A&M Aggies by a final tally of 5-2 at the Miramont Country Club to open the month of March.
