SAN MARCOS, Texas – Bobcat golfer
Grace Quintanilla made the most of competing on one of Texas State's home courses as the sophomore was crowned Co-Champion of the Jim West Challenge Monday at Kissing Tree Golf Club.
The win was the first of a young collegiate career for the Bobcat, after her previous best finish was tied for fourth during her freshman campaign. By way of the lowest third round score, Quintanilla took home the top trophy.
Quintanilla (74-66-66--206) overcame a first round 74 by posting back-to-back rounds of 6-under and climbed four spots on the leaderboard during the final 18. Her unblemished final round, which included six of her 15 birdies at the event, saw her rattle off three straight to close the front nine. Overall, her birdie total was the second-best of the event. She now owns a team-best five rounds in the 60s this season, as well as eight even or under par.
Quintanilla is the first TXST winner of the Jim West Challenge since Sasikarn Somboonsup won in 2019. Overall, she is the fourth champion from Texas State also joining Iman Nordin (2013) and Krista Puisite (2012).
As a team, the Bobcats finished tied for fifth at 2-over. No. 43 TCU won the event, No. 36 Missouri was second and North Texas rounded out the top three.
Mana Hersperger finished second in the TXST lineup at tied for 25th. Her event was highlighted by a first round 71 and a pair of eagles on the back nine of round three. Hersperger's (71-76-73--220) 4-over final score was her best performance of the 2026-27 campaign to date.
Mia Ginnetti (75-71-76--222) and
Sandra Palin (75-77-71--223) finished tied for 30th and tied for 33rd, respectively for season-bests, while
Savannah Bowers (79-72-82--233) completed the TXST lineup tied for 50th. Competing as an individual, London Fowles (76-74-77--227) came in at tied for 40th, also the top mark for her this season.
The Bobcats are back in action in February for a head-to-head event with UIW at Landa Park in New Braunfels.
