SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team concludes its five-game road swing on Tuesday at Incarnate Word with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Sullivan Field. It will be the Bobcats' first trip to the Cardinals' campus since Feb. 2, 1994.

Entering the game, TXST is 12-8 overall after dropping two of three at South Alabama over the weekend to open Sun Belt Conference play. UIW has an 11-9 record after going 1-2 at Sam Houston State this past weekend.

Scouting Texas State
Texas State is 3-1 this season in midweek games. Three of the contests have been played at home while the lone road midweek game was an 8-3 win over UTSA on Mar. 5.

Jaylen Hubbard continues to lead the Bobcats with a .350 batting average, 28 hits, four triples and a .538 slugging percentage. His .465 on-base percentage and 21 runs scored are the second best on the team. The senior third baseman's triple total is tied for the second most in the nation.

Will Hollis enters the game with a 14-game reached base streak, the longest this season for a TXST player. He is hitting .345 with a team-high 15 RBIs and .513 on-base percentage. His six doubles is tied for the most on the squad with
Cole Coffey.

Also batting over .300 on the year are
Dalton Shuffield (.306),
Jaxon Williams (.325) and Coffey (.302). Williams' 24 runs lead the team and are the second most in the Sun Belt and Shuffield is a perfect 5-for-5 stealing bases.

Herrmann will be making his fourth start in a midweek contest. He is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 14.2 innings. The junior right-hander has struck out 16 with 10 coming this past Wednesday at Rice.

Kyle Bradford has made a team-high nine appearances out of the bullpen. He sports a 0.82 ERA in 11.0 innings of work along with six strikeouts.
Brandon Lewis (0-1, 2 SV, 9 K) has made eight relief appearances and
Brent Hebert (1-1, 1.93 ERA, 6 K) has thrown in seven contests.

Scouting Incarnate Word
Incarnate Word will be playing its 12th home game of the season. In the previous 11, the Cardinals have gone 6-5 with half of the wins coming against Hofstra on the opening weekend of the season.

Taylor Smith leads the team with a .408 batting average, 29 hits, eight doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBIs, 22 strikeouts and a .817 slugging percentage. His .494 on-base percentage and 22 runs scored are tied for the team lead with Antonio Valdez, who is hitting .406. Valdez comes in with a team-high four triples while driving in 13 runs.

Hitting over .300 on the year are Sean Arnold (.314), Ryan Flores (.339), Ryan Gonzalez (.329), Lee Thomas (.321) and Jordan Thompson (.317).

Starting all three midweek contests this season for UIW has been Tyler Perez. The senior right-hander has yet to receive a decision with 15 strikeouts over 12.0 innings spanning six appearances.

Bernie Martinez has been the top pitcher on the staff. The senior right-hander is 4-0 with a 1.33 ERA, two saves, 24 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .189 batting average in 27.0 innings. He has thrown in seven games and started two contests.

Both Cody Allen (3.38) and Andrew Morgan (3.86) have an ERA below four. Michael McElmeel has appeared in a team-high 12 games on the mound.

All-Time Series
Texas State leads the all-time series 25-9 after defeating Incarnate Word 7-4 back on Mar. 6 at Bobcat Ballpark. The earlier victory extended the Bobcats' winning streak to eight games.

When playing the Cardinals on the road, TXST has a 4-2 record. The last time the teams played in the Alamo City on Feb. 2, 1994, UIW won 8-6. The last win for the Bobcats on the road in the series was a doubleheader sweep on Feb. 20, 1991 by the scores of 2-0 and 2-1.
