SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team will play in the ICON Invitational on Feb. 25-26 in Houston.
"We are excited to head back to the Icon Invitational," head coach
Lisa Strom said. "The field is deep, and we have been working hard. Simply put, this team is beginning to realize the importance of self-discipline and they have seen it in action over the past 10 days at home. We are on mission to rewrite the record books, and when we are firing on all cylinders. I know we can compete at a very high level."
"Typically, the Woodlands CC plays into the hands of great ball strikers," Strom said. "I look for Sarah to have a great week because she hits a ton of greens. If our lineup can stay disciplined to our course management strategies, then the sky is the limit. We have control of a lot of things, and making great decisions is one of them. It will be fun to watch them compete with some Bobcat fans living in the Houston area coming out to support them as well."

GETTING MORA AT THE TOP
Mora, a senior, has been a force in the Bobcat lineup over the last three seasons. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Mora has placed inside the top-25 a total of 14 times and has six top-10 finishes and three top-5 finishes to her credit. She has led the Bobcats in scoring average in each of the last three seasons and has had every round of her career count for the team score.
WHITE DOWN THE MIDDLE
White has been a welcomed addition from Western Michigan. She has four top-25 finishes, two top-10 finishes, and two top-5 finishes. During the 2017-18 season she tied a single-season Texas State record with four eagles.
AOM-ING FOR THE WIN
Somboonsup, better known as Aom by her teammates, has won four events since joining the Bobcats prior to the 2016-17 season. She is the only TXST women's golfer to win multiple events in two different seasons. Her last victory came at the UTRGV Invitational on March 6, 2018.
CARRYING THE BAG
The Texas State women's golf program is dedicating the 2018-19 season to former Texas State graduate student Darryn Deen Andrews, a United States Army 2nd Lieutenant killed after his unit was ambushed while serving in Pakitika Province, Afghanistan on Sept. 4, 2009. In every tournament this season, a Bobcat will carry a special bag to honor 2nd Lieutenant Andrews. Yip will carry the bag at the Texas State Invitational.
"Sean is carrying Darryn's bag," Strom said. "She has been an exemplary leader on and off the course the past two weeks. Sean's teammates lean on her for encouragement as well as her willingness to step up and do the job. Sean has earned Darryn's bag this week because of her selfless acts of putting her team ahead of herself."
LAST TIME OUT
The Texas State women's golf team finished the 2019 season-opening Texas State Invitational in fifth place out of 16 competing teams. The Bobcats finished the tournament shooting an 880 (282-288-310; +28) on Tuesday at the par 71 6,059-yard Plum Creek Golf Course.
