SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team travels to Lake Charles, Louisiana and takes part in the Lake Area Classic Friday through Sunday with games against Creighton and McNeese.

The Bobcats take on each team on Friday in a doubleheader beginning with the Bluejays at 2 p.m. followed by the Cowboys at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday sees TXST take on Creighton and 1 p.m. and wrap up the tournament at 2 p.m. on Sunday against McNeese.

No radio coverage will be available for the any of the games. Video stream of any the games is still to be decided while live stats will be provided for all four contests.

Scouting Texas State
Texas State opened the 2019 campaign with wins over 24-ranked Missouri State (10-0) and Utah (8-3) while falling to Nevada (4-0) over the weekend.

Jaxon Williams leads the team with a .444 batting average. Both
Ryan Newman and
John Wuthrich are hitting .333. Wuthrich has scored a team best five times while Newman is tied with
Chase Evans for the team lead with three RBIs. Also batting over .300 is
Jaylen Hubbard at .308.

Zachary Leigh is scheduled to take the rubber Tuesday night. Last season he went 4-3 with a 5.11 ERA in 61.2 innings over 17 games that included nine starts. The junior struck out 45 and walked 32.

Scouting Creighton
Creighton began its season with a three-game sweep of Little Rock on the road. All three contests saw both teams score at least eight runs. The Bluejays were receiving votes in this week's NCBWA poll. They were picked to finish tied for second in the Big East Preseason Poll with Seton Hall.

Will Robertson was named the Big East Co-Preseason Player of the Year and Preseason Third Team All-American by both
Baseball America and
D1Baseball.com. So far this season, the junior outfielder is batting .308 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.

Three others are also hitting at least .400 led by Jordan Hovey at .444. Both Jack Strunc and Parker Upton are batting .400. Strunc paces the team with six hits, six RBIs and three doubles.

TXST is scheduled to face Mitch Ragan and Denson Hull on the mound this weekend. Ragan was named the Big East Pitcher of the Week after tossing six innings in the series opening win over the Trojans with seven strikeouts. He allowed three runs while not issuing a walk.

Hull surrendered six runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings in his start in the Natural State.

Bobby Kametas has Creighton's lone save of the season. He made two appearances last weekend, totaling 1.2 inning and striking out four.

Scouting McNeese
McNeese comes in with a 3-1 record after defeating Houston 13-5 in 14 innings Wednesday night. The Cowboys won two of three games at UTSA to open their campaign and outscored the Roadrunners 30-13. Friday's game against Texas State will be McNeese's home opener.

Nate Fisbeck leads the Cowboys in batting average (.444), runs scored (8) and hit by pitches (4) while sharing the lead with eight hits. Clayton Rasbeary comes in with a team-high three home runs and nine RBIs. He is also hitting .368 on the young campaign.

Shane Selman has driven in eight runs, scored eight times and is hitting .364. Also batting over .300 is Dustin Duhon at .353.

On Friday, McNeese will send out junior right-hander Rhett Deaton to the mound. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA after going five innings at UTSA. The Winnsboro, Texas native allowed just three hits, two of them doubles, and struck out four in the contest. Sunday's starter for McNeese is still to be determined.

All-Time Series vs. Opponents
Creighton holds a 4-3 advantage in the all-time series with Texas State but the Bobcats have won the last two meetings. Last time the two teams met was on Mar. 9, 2002 in Round Rock, Texas and saw TXST win 5-3. The first six contests all took place in San Marcos from 1995-97. This weekend's games will be the first between the teams outside of the Lone Star State.

Texas State leads the all-time series 42-34 over McNeese. The Bobcats have won five of the last seven contests including taking two of three at home last year. The last time the teams met in Lake Charles was May 7-9, 2010 with TXST winning two of the three contests. When playing the Cowboys on the road, the Bobcats are 19-17 all-time.
