Bobcats Ready for First Road Tilt at Oral Roberts

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Fresh off winning its home opener for the 16th consecutive season, the Texas State women's basketball team (1-0) will embark on its first road contest of the season to Oral Roberts (1-0) at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 8th at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Okla. Oral Roberts will provide a live video stream, Jacob Pavilack will have the radio call on txstatebobcats.com.

Last Time Out

The Bobcats utilized a balanced scoring attack to open the year with a 72-31 home victory over Texas Lutheran. Sophomore center Jaeda Reed was the only Bobcat in double figures with a career-high 18 points, and seven players scored seven points or more. The defense forced the Bulldogs into 32 turnovers, the most by an opponent in the last nine seasons. TXST hauled in 51 rebounds and grabbed a Coach Zenarae Antoine era best 27 offensive rebounds.

All 11 players that saw action for TXST got on the scoreboard and freshmen Jessica Paz y Puente (3), Keslyn King (2) and Chelsea Johnson (3) connected for their first collegiate points.

About Texas State

Texas State returns nine players and 60 percent of its scoring from the 2018-19 campaign. Six players that started at least five games last year (Brooke Holle, Bailey Holle, Jayla Johnson, Kennedy Taylor, Da'Nasia Hood, Ja'Kayla Bowie) are back for another tour of duty. The Holle twins are the only two seniors on the squad and Brooke leads the team in returning production as she averaged 10.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last year. Brooke has totaled 716 points in her career and is closing in on becoming the 19th 1,000 point scorer in program history. Bailey is also the leading returner in three-point field goal percentage (.333) after nailing 20 last season.

  • Junior college transfer Lillie More was a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor in her Division I debut against Texas Lutheran.
  • Texas State last won its road opener in 2012 at North Texas, 88-83.
Scouting Oral Roberts
The Golden Eagles were tabbed to finish fourth in the nine-team Summit League Preseason Poll, Junior guard Keni Jo Lippe was named to the Preseason All-Summit League Second Team after averaging 13.3 points per game last year while shooting 37.6 percent from three. Much like Texas State, Oral Roberts opened the year thrashing a non-Division I opponent and beat Central Christian 114-60 on Tuesday night. Lippe posted 27 points and was joined by five others in double-figures. Head coach Misti Cussen is in her eighth season as the head coach at ORU and is 110-106.

All-Time Series

The Golden Eagles have the upper hand in the series and defeated the Bobcats in all five previous games. Last season Oral Roberts defeated TXST in San Marcos, 81-64, despite forward Jayla Johnson posting a career-high 23 points. The two last met up in Tulsa to begin the 2004-05 campaign and ORU won in convincing fashion, 93-52. Texas State is in search of its first ever win over a Summit League foe and is 0-10 all-time against the conference.
