SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team continued its early success this fall when the Bobcats won their fourth straight game with a 13-5 victory over St. Mary's in a 10-inning game Friday night at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning when
Bailee Carter led off with a single and scored on Sara Vanderford's home run.

The Bobcats added another run in the second when
Samara Lagway reached on an error. Marissa Cruz came in as a pinch runner and stole second. After she advanced to third, Carter drew a walk and attempted to steal second base. In the meantime, Cruz raced home and scored before Carter was tagged out, adding to Texas State's lead.

TXST increased its lead when the Bobcats added another run in the fourth inning. Carter drew a two-out walk and stole second base. Eliza Eberhard hit a triple to drive her in and give Texas State a 4-0 lead.

The Bobcats opened up a commanding lead when 13 hitters went to the plate, and they scored eight runs in the fifth inning.
ArieAnn Bell led the inning off with a home run. After the Bobcats loaded the bases, Eberhard drove in two more runs with a double. Two more runs scored when St. Mary's committed a pair of errors. Then, Tori McCann and
Tara Oltmann hit RBI singles to give the Bobcats a 12-0 lead.

Texas State scored its final run in the eighth inning when Cruz had a leadoff walk, advanced to third on an error and scored on a groundout by
Cat Crenek.

On the mound, Tori McCann,
Meagan King, and
Cassie Valdez combined to strike out seven but surrendered five runs and 10 hits. McCann started and pitched four shutout innings. She gave up four hits and recorded two strikeouts. King came in to pitch the next four innings, had three strikeouts, and gave up four hits. Valdez gave up all five runs while pitching the final two innings.
