Softball to Host #3 Texas Tech

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State softball returns home Wednesday, April 15 for a marquee meeting with #3 Texas Tech at 6 pm inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.

ABOUT THE BOBCATS:
Texas State is coming off a 34-19 campaign which included a Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Championship and were named Preseason Favorites in the Sun Belt Conference Coaches Poll. Texas State returns 96.8% of its innings pitched and 75.5% of its at-bats from the 2025, championship winning season.

Head coach Ricci Woodard is in her 26th season at the helm of Texas State softball. In her tenure, Woodard has 14 conference championships and 11 NCAA Regional appearances and enters the weekend with 906 career wins.

Headed into the week, Texas State has a 28-16 record coming off a three-game series sweep of the Troy Trojans in Sun Belt play last week.

Currently leading the batting order for the Bobcats is Williams who's hitting .402 this season, followed by Harley Vestal at .361. They are two of four Bobcats hitting over .300 this season. In addition to them it is Aiyana Coleman (.333) and Karmyn Bass (.301)

In the circle for the Bobcats is a 1-2 punch from Maddy Azua and Emma Strood. Strood is coming off a two-win week with a save in 17.0 innings that earned her Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week. She had a 0.00 ERA throughout the three appearances. The pair boast two of the top ERAs in the Sun Belt, with Maddy Azua being a top-5 strikeout pitcher in the nation. Azua has a 2.00 ERA in 168.1 innings while Strood has a 2.02 in 72.2.
 
ABOUT THE RED RAIDERS:
Texas Tech comes into the week with a 40-3 record on the year, coming off a series win at Utah and a win over Utah State. The Red Raiders will face UTSA before coming to Bobcat Softball Stadium.
 
The Red Raiders have four batters batting over .400 this season, led by Kaitlyn Terry at .522. She has 59 hits, 47 runs, and 45 RBI this season. Towards the top of the Red Raider order is Mihyia Davis at .446, Jackie Lis at .446 and Mia Williams at .445.
 
Nijaree Canaday leads the bullpen for the Red Raiders with a 1.35 ERA in 104.0 innings of work. She is followed by Kaitlyn Terry at a 1.56 in 85.0 innings.
