NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced Tuesday that senior pitcher
Emma Strood was named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for week 10. This is Strood's second Pitcher of the Week award of her career and of the season.
Strood recorded two wins and a save to earn herself Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week. She tossed 17.0 innings this week without allowing a single run for a 0.00 ERA. She recorded two complete game shutouts in wins vs UTSA and at Troy while coming in in relief to complete the series sweep against Troy and earn the save.
This week, Strood struck out 20 batters while walking just two throughout the 17.0 innings. Additionally, she did not allow a single extra base hit in the just nine hits she surrendered in her three outings. In Sun Belt play, Strood all but silenced the league's best averaging offense in her win and save effort against Troy.
This is Texas State's fifth Pitcher of the Week accolade of the year, with Maddy Azua earning three and Strood's first this season in week five. Texas State is the only school in the conference with two pitchers who have repeated for Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week this season. Texas State is also the only school with more than two Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
Strood's season ERA now sits at a 2.02 to pair with Azua's 2.00 as two of the top ERA's in the Sun Belt Conference. As a staff, Texas State has the league's best ERA at a 2.52.
Strood and the rest of the Bobcats will return to action tomorrow, April 15 against #2 Texas Tech at 6 pm. The team will then host Southern Miss this weekend for River State Weekend in Bobcat Softball Stadium. The first of the three-game series will be April 17 at 6 pm.
