SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team will continue an eight-game homestand with contests against both Baylor and Prairie View A&M. The Bobcats (21-18-1, 9-9 SBC) will face the Bears (22-17, 6-9 Big 12) at 6 p.m. April 24 before welcoming the Panthers (9-27, 5-13 SWAC) at 6 p.m. April 25.
Baylor leads the all-time series with the Bobcats 49-24, but the maroon and gold is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. That includes a 6-1 TXST triumph in Waco earlier this season.
Texas State is 39-1 all-time against Prairie View A&M. The lone Panther victory was an 8-4 decision on April 16, 1986. TXST has won 32 consecutive games in the series.
A LOOK AT TEXAS STATE
• Texas State is currently 21-18-1 this and 9-9 in the SBC after dropping a weekend home series to South Alabama two games to one.
• Junior
Jaylen Hubbard leads TXST in batting average overall this season, as he is hitting .301 (46-for-153).
• Senior
Luke Sherley is the team leader in RBIs (28), while
Derek Scheible leads in runs scored (34) and home runs (9).
• The Bobcats recorded 46 hits in their series with the Panthers April 13-14, which was the most for a three-game series since April 18-20, 2008.
A LOOK AT BAYLOR
• BU owns a 22-17 overall mark this season with a 6-9 record in Big 12 Conference action.
• The Bears are one of the hottest programs in the nation over the past two weeks, as they have won six-consecutive games and eight of their last nine. That includes a weekend sweep over nationally-ranked TCU.
• T.J. Raguse (.340 average) and Andy Thomas (.331) lead the way at the plate. Shea Langeliers has blasted a team-high nine home runs and also leads the side in RBIs (26) and runs scored (30).
A LOOK AT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M
• PVAMU currently sits at 9-27 overall and 5-13 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
• The Panthers have dropped six of their last seven outings, and they will host Jarvis Christian in a doubleheader April 24 before traveling to San Marcos.
• Daniel Lingua leads Prairie View A&M with a .388 average, 45 hits and 36 runs scored.
• Steven Williams boasts a team-leading three home runs, while Ezekiel Bear has a team-high 20 RBIs.
WHERE THEY STAND
• TXST is currently 9-9 in league play and sits in eighth in the SBC standings.
• If the season were to end today, the Bobcats would be one of four teams to play an opening-round, single-elimination game on May 22. They would face current No. 9 seed ULM for the right to advance to the main double-elimination bracket.
• This weekend's opponent, Georgia Southern, is currently in fifth place and would receive a bye past the opening round.
• The top six currently includes Coastal Carolina, Little Rock, South Alabama, Troy, GS, and Louisiana.
• The teams slated to compete in the two play-in games are UTA, Texas State, ULM and Georgia State. Arkansas State and Appalachian State are presently on the outside looking in.
