SAN DIEGO --The Texas State women's tennis team began a two-match road trip in California earning some early momentum against San Diego before dropping a 6-1 decision at the San Diego Tennis and Racquet Club on Thursday afternoon.

The Bobcats opened the match winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point before dropping all six singles matches.

Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez began the day winning the No. 3 doubles match by a score of 6-4 over Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonnenmacher.

San Diego came back to even the score at 1-1 when
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Alex Jones suffered a 6-5 setback against Nicole Anderson and Daniels Morales in the top-seeded match.

Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez clinched the doubles point for the Bobcats when they beat Kati Kukaras and Maria-Paula Torres by a score of 7-5 on the number two court.

San Diego surged back in singles play when
Andrea Fuchs fell 6-0, 6-3 against Nonnenmacher on the number six court. Then, Jones fell 6-3, 6-2 against Kukaras on the No. 4 match and Chia Ming Ming fell 6-3, 7-5 against Garcia on the number five court.

All three of the remaining matches were decided in three sets. Navajo-Melendez dropped a 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 outcome against Torres in the No. 3 match. In the No. 2 match, Israel Lewis fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 against Morales. In the final match, Perez suffered a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 loss against Anderson in the top seeded match.

The loss drops Texas State's record to 2-9 this season and the Bobcats will look to win their second road match of the season when the play at CSUN on Friday afternoon in Northridge, Calif. The victory improves San Diego's record to 6-6 this season.
