SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team will take a quick trip north for a midweek clash with Baylor. The Bobcats (3-4) and Bears (3-3) will compete at 6:35 p.m. Feb. 28 in Waco, Texas, inside Baylor Ballpark.

TXST owns a 3-1 mark in Waco against Baylor in the last four meetings, but the Bears defeated the Bobcats 10-2 a year ago. Baylor leads the all-time series 49-23, but the maroon and gold is 6-4 over BU in the last 10 overall meetings.

A LOOK AT TEXAS STATE
•    Texas State boasts a 3-4 mark after taking a home series from McNeese State this past weekend.
•    Junior Jacob Almendarez led the Bobcats at the plate with a .429 average (3-for-7). He also scored twice.
•    Almendarez also leads TXST in batting average overall this season, as he is hitting .409 (9-for-22).
•    The Texas State pitching staff boasted a 1.33 ERA and held the Cowboys to a .174 batting average.

A LOOK AT BAYLOR
•    BU (3-3) has split its first two weekend series, taking two out of three from Houston Baptist and picking up a victory at No. 11 UCLA.
•    The Bears were 34-23 last season and went 12-12 against Big 12 Conference competition.
•    BU lost both matchups in the Big 12 Conference Championship but still qualified as an at-large selection to compete in the NCAA Houston Regional. The Bears bowed out after two games.
•    The team was selected to finish eighth in the 2018 Big 12 standings in a preseason poll of the conference's head coaches.
•    Baylor features preseason first team All-American Shea Langeliers and fellow preseason All-American Troy Montemayor.

REICH SNAGS FIRST-CAREER WEEKLY ACCOLADE
•    Connor Reich was honored as the first 2018 Sun Belt Conference Community Coffee Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Feb. 20.
•    The junior from Hallsville, Texas, had a dominant performance on the mound that led the Texas State baseball team to a 10-1 victory over Oklahoma State on Feb. 17.
•    Reich struck out eight Cowboys and did not issue a walk, which marked the first start of his career where he did not concede a free pass. He also gave up just two hits and did not allow a baserunner past second base.
•    The hurler earned the first accolade of his career and became the fifth different Bobcat to be lauded as the SBC Pitcher of the Week. The award was the first for a TXST pitcher since March 21, 2016 (Jeremy Hallonquist).
