SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team is set to head to Houston for a midweek clash with Rice. The Bobcats (1-2) and Owls (2-1) will lock up at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 inside Reckling Park.
Rice leads the all-time series 53-14, but the maroon and gold was able to snap a nine-game losing skid last season.
A LOOK AT TEXAS STATE
•   Texas State owns a 1-2 mark in 2018 after dropping the season-opening series to Oklahoma State.
•   Senior
Dylan Paul led the way at the plate, posting a .500 average (6-for-12). Senior
Luke Sherley and junior
Jacob Almendarez both went 4-for-11 (.364).
•  Â
Connor Reich had a dominant effort on the mound in Saturday's victory over the Cowboys. He went 7.0 innings and gave up no runs or walks. He only conceded two hits, while striking out eight.
•   The Bobcats returned nine position players who accumulated at least 20 starts last season and their entire starting rotation.
A LOOK AT RICE
•   The Owls (2-1) opened 2018 with wins over Samford and UCF, and a shutout loss to Virginia. Tuesday's bout will be the home opener for Rice.
•   The Owls posted a 33-31 record a year ago and won the Conference USA Championship.
•   Rice picked up a pair of victories over Texas Southern and Southeastern Louisiana in the Baton Rouge Regional before falling to host LSU.
•   Matt Canterino was named to the NCBWA Preseason All-American Third Team and the preseason All-Conference USA Team.
•   Joining Canterino on the preseason All-CUSA Team were Dominic DiCaprio and Ford Proctor.
•   Rice was selected to finish second in the 2018 C-USA standings in a preseason poll of the conference's head coaches.
SEASON TICKETS NOW ON SALE
•   The Texas State Athletics Ticket Office has announced season ticket packages for the upcoming 2018 Bobcat baseball campaign.
•   Tickets are now on sale for both season ticket renewals and new purchases. Reserved season tickets can be purchased for $150 and general admission seats are $99. Special discounts are available for Bobcat Club donors, Texas State faculty and staff, recent alumni (2013-17) and members of the T-Association.
•   Patrons can purchase their season tickets at the TXST Athletic Ticket Office located at Bobcat Stadium, by calling the office at 512-245-2272, or by logging into their account on TXStateBobcats.com/tickets.
•   Due to the high demand for reserved seats, fans are encouraged to purchase the best available seats now and to indicate their preferences for other locations if any become available.
•   Season ticket holders may renew their same seating locations as last year by logging into their account, calling 512-245-2272 or visiting the TXST Athletic Ticket Office between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Patrons attempting to login to their account need to check their email for instructions from Texas State on how to do so.
THE 2018 SLATE
•   The Bobcats will begin their 56-game campaign with a bang, as they will open the year playing host to Oklahoma State in a three-game series Feb. 16-18 at Bobcat Ballpark. Other early-season matchups include road trips to Rice, Baylor and UC Santa Barbara. The series with the Gauchos will be the first meetings between the two programs.
•   TXST is billed to play 32 home games and 24 contests on the road.
•   Additional notable non-conference home games include dates with Rice (March 6), Texas (March 27), UTSA (April 3) and Baylor (April 24).
•   The first Sun Belt Conference action will be a three-game home series against Appalachian State March 16-18. TXST will then hit the road for a weekend set with a Coastal Carolina team that won the national championship two years ago (March 23-25).
•   Texas State will compete 23 times against programs who have played in the NCAA Championship at least once over the last two years. That mark also includes 10 contests with teams that advanced to the College World Series during that same period (Oklahoma State, UC Santa Barbara, Coastal Carolina, Texas A&M).
