RUSTON, La. – After nearly a four-hour delay to get the courts dry from an early morning rain, the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss at Louisiana Tech on Sunday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
Texas State began the day capturing the team doubles point that was decided when
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Alex Jones came back to defeat Karla De La Luz and Nadja Manjon by a score of 7-5 on court two. That victory came after the two teams split the first two matches.
First,
Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez fell 6-3 in the No. 3 match. Texas State's first win of the day came on court 1 where
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez defeated Andrea Perez-Lopez and Paulina Cota by a score of 6-4 on court one.
With just three courts dry, the two teams played three singles matches at a time.
The score was tied at 1-1 when
Alex Jones suffered a 7-5, 6-0 loss against Sonia Chen on court three.
Then,
Ana Perez fell 6-3, 6-2 against Andrea Perez-Lopez in the No.1 match to give the Lady Techsters a 2-1 lead.
Julia Navajo-Melendez won the first set of the No. 2 match against Nadja Manjon by the score of 6-3. But, she dropped each of the final two sets by the same score as LA Tech won its third straight singles matches.
LA Tech clinched the victory when
Joy Chia Ming Ming fell 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 match.
The loss drops Texas State's record to 0-4 this season, while LA Tech improves to 2-3. The Bobcats will look to win their first match this spring when the Bobcats travel to Northwestern State on Monday in a match that begins at 11 a.m.
