SAN MARCO, Texas – The Texas State University Department of Athletics and Oak Farms Dairy honored 91 student-athletes for their academic achievement at Texas State's 2017 annual Oak Farms Dairy Athletics Academic Awards ceremony that was held on Monday in the J. Garland Warren Room at Bobcat Stadium. Each of the student-athletes who were honored have maintained a grade-point average of 3.5 or better during the 2016 spring and/or fall semesters.
A total of 38 student-athletes across 11 programs received "Cream of the Crop" awards after maintaining a 4.0 GPA during either the spring 2016, fall 2016 or both semesters. The "Cream of the Crop" honorees include 10 members of the soccer team, five women's tennis players and four members each of the football, men's track and field and women's track and field teams. The list also includes three volleyball players, two men's basketball and two baseball players, along with one member each from the men's golf, women's golf, women's basketball and softball teams.

David Faraudo Godinez of the men's golf team and women's basketball's
McKinley Bostad were "Cream of the Crop" recipients.
Faraudo Godinez was named the men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year after earning a 3.68 GPA as a finance major. He was a four-year letterman for the golf team, four-time Oak Farms Academic Achievement Award winner and two-time "Cream of the Crop" recipient. He also was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List three times and an All-American Scholar twice. He also was the 2016 Oak Hills Intercollegiate Tournament's champion.
The Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year was Lange, who boasts a 3.84 GPA in communication disorders and is a four-time Oak Farms "Cream of the Crop" winner, named to the Dean's List seven times and named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Academic Team three times. She also was named to the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Association's All-Academic team and is a nominee for the 2016-17 Communications Disorders Outstanding Senior Award. Lange is a four-year letterwinner for the women's track and field team and holds school records in the weight, hammer and discus throws. She is a two-time Sun Belt Conference champion in the discus, two-time SBC runner-up in the shot put and bronze medalist in the weight throw. She also has qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Championships twice. She will graduate summa cum laude this spring and will pursue a doctoral degree in physical therapy.
Volleyball's
Morgan Lewis was awarded the Dr. Jean Smith Outstanding Female Athlete Postgraduate Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievements and potential for success in graduate studies after earning a 3.37 GPA in exercise and sports science pre-physical therapy. A transfer from Tyler Junior College, Lewis served as a volleyball team captain during the last two seasons, been named to the Dean's List three times, earned an Oak Farms Academic Achievement award twice and been named to the Sun Belt Conference Honor Roll twice.
In addition, 53 student-athletes earned Academic Achievement Awards, which recognizes those with GPAs of 3.50 to 3.99. They included 13 football players, six volleyball players, five members of the baseball, softball and soccer teams, four members of the men's golf, men's track and field, and women's track and field teams, and three men's basketball players, three women's basketball players and one women's golfer.

The Emmett Shelton Winners for highest team GPA were the women's tennis and men's golf teams. In addition to these student-athletes, an additional 64 student-athletes received a 3.0-3.49 GPA.
CHEERLEADERS, STRUTTERS AND STUDENT-TRAINERS EARN ACADEMIC AWARDS
In a separate ceremony, 87 cheerleaders, Strutters and student athletic trainers were honored for maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. There were 28 members of the support groups who had a 4.0 GPA during one or both semesters in 2016. The trainers were Aidan Pool, Hiroshi Sagawa, Essence Ephran, Kaylee Gott and Sarah Rudd.
