SAN MARCOS — Texas State Athletics is proud to announce a $1 million planned gift from San Marcos resident and Bobcat supporter Mike Schaefer to benefit the Bobcat Club Excellence Fund.
Schaefer's gift is one of the largest planned contributions in Texas State Athletics history and will have a lasting impact on Bobcat student-athletes. The support will help fund scholarships and provide critical resources to ensure student-athlete success both on and off the field.
The newly expanded Bobcat Club Excellence Fund focuses on supporting the total student-athlete experience, including academic support, nutrition, training, and other key areas that contribute to player development, recruitment, and retention.

Don Coryell. "This gift will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes and allows us to continue providing top-tier resources that support them in competition and in the classroom."
"After relocating from Dallas, it was the Kissing Tree community in San Marcos that initially drew me to the area," Schaefer said. "Since then, I've enjoyed cheering on the Bobcats and am excited about the future of Texas State Athletics, especially as we join the Pac-12 in July. I'm proud to support all Texas State student-athletes through the Bobcat Club Excellence Fund."

This gift also moves Texas State Athletics closer to its $50 million goal for the Light the Star capital campaign, which is focused on building a brighter future for Bobcat Athletics and supporting all 370 Texas State student-athletes.
