ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team couldn't recover from UTA's strong start and the Bobcats suffered a 4-0 loss against the Mavs at the UTA Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Texas State fell behind 1-0 early in the match when the Mavericks captured the team doubles point after the Bobcats dropped a pair of doubles matches. First,
Pippa Carr and
Joy Chia Ming Ming suffered a 6-1 loss against Agustina Serio and Valeria Lopez in the No. 3 match. Then,
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez dropped a 6-2 decision against No. 72-ranked Astrid Gehre and Anna Wichert in the No. 2 match.
Texas State couldn't recapture any momentum in singles play as
Alex Jones,
Eva Dench and Carr suffered losses in their matches. Jones fell 6-1, 6-1 against Carla Cerdan Veves on the No. 6 court. Dench also suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback against Angeles de los Rios in the No. 1 match, and Carr dropped a 6-2, 6-0 loss against Serio in the No. 2 contest.
Sunday's loss came after the Bobcats edged Arkansas State, 4-3, on Saturday and gives Texas State a 2-2 record against Sun Belt Conference teams during this season. The Bobcats close out the regular season next Saturday, April 15, when they host UT Rio Grande Valley at the Bobcat Tennis Complex beginning at 11 a.m. Texas State plays in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on April 20-23 in New Orleans.
