JONESBORO, Ark. – Following a 6.5-hour delay due to wet court conditions after an overnight thunderstorm, the Texas State women's tennis team defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 4-1, at the Arkansas State Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats won their first match on a neutral court and first match against a Sun Belt Conference opponent after winning four singles matches. With the delay, the match began with the six singles matches being played.

Pippa Carr won her fifth dual match of the season when she defeated Kelly Drew in straight sets by a score of 6-2, 7-5 on the No. 2 court.

Ana Perez won her No. 3 match against Lucile Delabarre in three sets after winning the first set by a score of 6-3. Delabarre pulled even when she won the second set, 6-2, but Perez came back to claim the third set by a score of 6-4 to clinch her team-best 10th dual-match victory this season.

Julia Navajo-Melendez and Joy Chia Ming Ming also won their matches in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Navajo-Melendez defeated Abby Johnson on the No. 4 court, while Chia Ming Ming won over Yasmin Ansari on the No. 5 court.

Louisiana scored its only point in the match when Eva Dench dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Alexandra Way in the top-seeded match.

The final singles match between Alex Jones and Carla Ortega on the No. 6 court was halted after Texas State clinched the victory. Jones dropped the first set by a score of 6-4, but came back to win the second set, 6-3, and was leading 5-2 in the third set when the match was stopped.

The victory improves Texas State's overall record to 5-9 and snaps a four-match skid. The Bobcats will play a pair of SBC matches next weekend in Arlington, Texas. They play against Arkansas State on April 8 and face UTA on April 9.

Texas State plays its final home match on April 15 when they close out the regular season against UT Rio Grande Valley at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
