JONESBORO, Ark. – Playing its first Sun Belt Conference match on a neutral court, the Texas State women's tennis team lost a 4-0 decision against No. 50-ranked ULM at the Arkansas State Tennis Complex on Friday morning.
The Bobcats got off to a rough start when they surrendered the team doubles point after dropping a pair of matches. First,
Eva Dench and
Alex Jones suffered a 6-0 loss against No. 9-regionally-ranked Stefana Andrei and Petra Horakova in the No. 1 match.
Julia Navajo-Melendez and
Joy Chia Ming Ming also fell 6-2 against Luana Stanciu and Tiffany Mylonas. The final doubles match was halted with
Pippa Carr and
Ana Perez trailing 4-2 against Madalina Grigoriu and Karolina Snita in the No. 2 match.
A clinch format was used for the singles matches with just the top three singles matches being played after ULM captured all three points by winning the top three seeded matches.
In the No. 1 match, Dench suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss against the No. 16-regionally-ranked Andrei. Carr dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Mylonas in the No. 2 match, while Perez lost the No. 3 match against Patricia Villar by the same score of 6-3, 6-2.
With the loss, Texas State falls to 4-9 overall this season. The Bobcats will look to even their Sun Belt record at 1-1 when they play Louisiana at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. ULM, which improves to 9-1 overall and 2-0 against Sun Belt teams, will play UTA at 10:30 a.m.
