JONESBORO, Ark. – The Texas State women's tennis team travels to Jonesboro, Arkansas this weekend when the Bobcats play this season's first two matches against Sun Belt Conference opponents. Texas State opens its road trip against No. 50-ranked ULM on Friday at the A-State Tennis Complex. Then, the Bobcats face Louisiana on Saturday. Both matches begin at 9:30 a.m.
Texas State has a 4-8 overall record and is looking for its first victory on a neutral court this season. The Bobcats also enter Friday seeking their second straight win against ULM after edging the Warhawks, 4-3, in Lafayette last season.
Sophomore
Ana Perez leads Texas State with a 9-3 record in dual matches this spring after posting a 3-1 mark in No. 3 matches during her last five matches. She also dropped a No. 2 singles match during that span.
Senior
Pippa Carr has a 4-7 record this spring and 11 singles victories overall after winning two of her last three No. 2 matches.
Joy Chia Ming Ming also has won five singles matches, including four No. 5 bouts.
Perez and Carr have combined for a 5-2 record in doubles matches to lead the Bobcats. Texas State's top-seeded doubles team of
Eva Dench and
Alex Jones also have a 6-4 record.
ULM enters Friday morning's match with an 8-1 overall record, including a 2-0 mark on neutral courts. The Warhawks are 3-1 in road matches after upsetting No. 40-ranked Tulane on March 18 in New Orleans. ULM is 1-0 against Sun Belt Conference teams after defeating Georgia State, 4-2, on Jan. 21 in Auburn, Ala.
Louisiana has a 5-7 record this season after winning four of its last five matches. The Ragin' Cajuns dropped a 4-0 decision against Tulane in Lafayette last Tuesday. Louisiana's four wins were against Southern, Alcorn State, Grambling and LSU Alexandria.
