Northridge, Calif. – With a last point being decided in the final set of the sixth singles match, the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss against Cal State Northridge on Saturday at the Matador Tennis Complex.
The day began with Cal State Northridge winning two doubles matches to secure the team doubles point. First,
Julia Navajo-Melendez and
Joy Chia Ming Ming fell 6-3 against Vivian Lin and Arpe Bagumyan on the No. 3 court.
Eva Dench and
Alex Jones had their two-match winning streak halted when they dropped a 6-4 decision against Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei.
Texas State came back to win the first two singles matches to take a 2-1 lead. First,
Ana Perez defeated Skyla Alcon by a score of 7-5, 7-6 on the No. 3 court. Then,
Pippa Carr won a three-set decision over Emma Roenholt by a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 match.
Cal State Northridge evened the team score at 2-2 when Navajo-Melendez suffered a 7-6, 6-4 loss against Poei in the No. 4 match. The Matadors regained the lead at 3-2 when Dench fell in three sets against Hsu by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in the top-seeded match.
The Bobcats tied the score for a final time at 3-3 when Jones won the final two sets in the No. 6 match against Elisaveta Nosenko by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
In the final singles match of the day on the No. 5 court, Chia Ming Ming and Lin split the first two sets by a score of 6-4 with Lin winning the first set and Chia Ming Ming winning the second. The third set was tied at 5-5 before Lin won the final two points to capture the set by a score of 7-5 and clinch the win for the Matadors.
The loss was the third straight setback for the Bobcats and dropped Texas State's record to 4-8 this season and Cal State Northridge evened its record at 7-7.
