SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Jodi Paige Williams, Quincy Charleston and Krista Jacobs combined for a three-hit shutout and the Bobcat offense scored in the final three innings as Texas State defeated Incarnate Word 6-0 Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Classic.
 
Williams picked up the win with 3.2 innings of work to improve to 3-1 on the season, while Charleston went 1.2 innings and Jacobs worked the game's final two outs.
 
Texas State (8-2) was led at the plate by Jaelyn Young's 2-for-3 day, which included her fourth homer of the season and a double. Five other Bobcats also hit safely, while Ariel Ortiz, Kimberlin Naivar, Lexi Fryar and Bailee Carter picked up RBI.
 
Texas State threatened in the bottom of the third, putting runners in scoring position with no one out. Haleigh Davis single through the right side to start the inning. Kennedy Cline then reached on a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt that advanced Davis to third. Following a Carter pop out, Naivar reached on a fielder's choice, then stole second. However, both Davis and Naivar would be stranded on the base paths as UIW's Sarah Leal notched her second strikeout of the game to escape the inning.
 
Young put the Bobcats up 1-0 in the fourth with a one-out solo home run to right center. Taylor Webb followed with a walk, but was not advanced as UIW got out of the inning with a strikeout and fly ball to center.
 
Incarnate Word loaded the bases with two out in the fifth via a two singles and a walk. However, Quincy Charleston came out of bull pen and quickly induced a ground out to keep the Cardinals scoreless and the Bobcats in front 1-0.
 
Texas State broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Lexi Fryar picked up the first RBI with a sac fly to right field that scored Carter. Ariel Ortiz then doubled to right, scoring Kimberlin Naivar, who had singled to left. Young then collected her second hit and RBI of the day with a double to left center that scored Ortiz.
 
The Bobcats added two more runs for a 6-0 lead in the sixth as Carter singled home Jaclyn Molenaar and Naivar scored Alex Cruz with a sacrifice fly.
 
UIW's Leal suffered the loss to fall to 1-4 on the season.

Texas State continues its time at the UTSA Classic this evening (Sat., Feb. 25) against the host-Roadrunners at 5:30 p.m. The Bobcats' final game of the event is slated for Sunday (Feb. 26) at 10:00 a.m. against New Mexico.
