SAN ANTONIO, TexasRandi Rupp struck out a career-high tying 14 batters and Jaelyn Young hit home runs in the fifth and seventh innings as Texas State downed UTSA 8-1 on Saturday evening at the UTSA Classic.

Rupp, who struck out 14 of the 29 batters she faced, improved to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 at the UTSA Classic. She now has 692 career strikeouts and is on the verge of becoming only the fourth Bobcat in program history with 700-plus strikeouts.

Young hit a three-run blast in the fifth and a solo shot in the seventh to total her fifth and sixth round-trippers of the season. She finished the evening 2-for-4 with four RBI. Ariel Ortiz and Taylor Webb also hit home runs in the game. Ortiz sent out a three-run shot in the third and Webb a solo homer in the second.

The Bobcats, winners of five straight, improved to 9-2 on the season, while UTSA fell to 5-8.

Webb started the Bobcat offense with her home run in the second as she sent Lizzy Fox's 0-1 offering out down the left-field line. Ortiz made it 4-0 in the Bobcats favor in the third with her dinger that scored Kimberlin Naivar and Bailee Carter.

UTSA got a run back in the bottom of the third on Randee Crawford's RBI single to right field, plating Lindsey Stewart.

After a scoreless fifth, Young put the game out of reach with her three-run blast to left field that scored Christiana McDowell and Ortiz. McDowell led off the inning with a single and Ortiz reached on an error to set the stage for Young.

Young then provided the final scoreline when she turned on an 0-2 pitch and sent it out over the left-field fence. Rupp finished off the Roadrunners in the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout and two groundouts.

UTSA's Fox suffered the loss in the circle, falling to 3-6 on the year.
