SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team looks to win its third straight dual match of the season when the Bobcats host former conference foe Stephen F. Austin at noon Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Friday's match is the first of three home matches this weekend. After the SFA match, Texas State also hosts Northwestern State at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Louisiana Tech at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Texas State enters the SFA match with a 2-0 record after winning a 4-3 decision against McNeese State on Jan. 29 after recording a 6-1 victory over Prairie View A&M on Oct. 29.
Senior
Pippa Carr clinched the triumph over McNeese State when she won her No. 2 singles match in straight sets. Carr began the match capturing the first set in a tiebreaker before coming back to win the second set by a score of 6-3.
The Bobcats won two other singles matches when
Ana Perez and
Joy Chia Ming Ming won their No. 4 and No. 5 matches in straight sets as well. Perez won her match by a score of 6-4, 6-1 and Chia Ming Ming posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The Bobcats began the day winning two doubles matches to capture the team point as
Eva Dench and
Alex Jones combined to win the No. 1 match after Carr and Perez teamed up to win the No. 2 match.
The Bobcats won the team doubles point against the Cowgirls after senior
Eva Dench and junior
Alex Jones teamed to win the No. 1 match by a score of 8-2. Carr and Perez began the day winning the No. 2 match by a score of 6-3.
Stephen F. Austin enters Friday's match with a 2-2 record this year after winning two matches on Feb. 4 when they defeated Northeastern State, which is ranked No. 9 in the latest NCAA Division II poll, and Prairie View A&M. The Lady Jacks began their spring schedule with losses at Texas A&M on Jan. 21 and against ULM on February 3.
Northwestern State will be looking for its first victory in a match on the road and enter Saturday's match with a 3-3 record after dropping three decisions at LSU, Tulane and SMU. The Lady Demons have won their three home matches against Louisiana, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech.
Louisiana Tech has a 4-4 record heading into their match at Incarnate Word on Saturday before traveling to Texas State on Sunday. The Lady Techsters enter this weekend looking to rebound from a 4-3 loss at Northwestern State on Feb. 12 after defeating McNeese State by a score of 5-0 on Feb. 11.
Following Sunday's match against Louisiana Tech, Texas State closes out its homestand against pair of I-35 rivals from San Antonio when the Bobcats host Incarnate Word at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 and host UTSA at 2 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex before traveling to Rice on Mar. 3. .
