WACO, Texas – In the 2016 season opening meet, the Baylor Twilight Invitational, The Texas State men's cross country teams finished second. Both the men's and women's races were 4K in the length at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex because of a 40-minute lightning delay.
Â
"Our men ran very well as a team for this early in the season," said assistant coach
Alex Muntefering. "Our race plan was to compete as a pack. Our 10.2-second spread from our first to the fifth runner, which was the best among all teams, was exactly what I was looking for."
Â
Jose Angel Gonzalez paced the Bobcats with a sixth place finish in a time of 12:23.9. He was followed by
Joseph Meade, who was four second behind him. Kyle Donomme (12:28.5) and
Logan Pittdman (12:29.2) rounded out foursome pack of top 10 finishers for Texas State.
Â
Coming in 16th was
Joseph Pena after he crossed the finish line in 12:34.1. Also recording a top 25 finish was
Jordan Janer in 21st.
Â
"Our women had a great last 1,000 meters of the race but we could have definitely executed more aggressively in the first 3,000 meters," Muntefering said. "We will make that change going forward so that we are in better contention earlier in the race."
Â
The top finisher for the Bobcat women was freshman
Madilyn King with a time of 15:16.0. Crossing the line behind her for Texas State was
Nikki Sanchez,
Devina Schneider and
Allyson Godfrey.
Â
Next for the Bobcats is the Justin Cooper Rice Invitational on Friday, September 9 in Houston, Texas.
