SAN MARCOS, Texas – Eva Dench and
Ana Perez scored both of Texas State's points with a pair of singles victories when the Bobcats suffered a 4-2 loss against UL Lafayette on Friday afternoon at the Bobcat Tennis Center.
The Ragin' Cajuns took an early 1-0 lead in the match when they captured the doubles point after winning a pair of matches. The first win came when
Yadira Rubio and Perez suffered a 6-2 loss against Melissa Burckhartt and Kelly Drew in the No. 1 match. Then,
Katy Collins and
Ammaarah Tim fell 6-4 versus Juliette Clement and Elena Sava on the No. 3 court. The No. 2 match between Dench and
Pippa Carr taking on Alexandra Way and Abby Johnson was stopped after the doubles point was decided.
Texas State jumped back into contention when Perez tied the score at 1-1 after winning her No. 5 match in straight sets with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Clement. The win was her second straight victory after she posted a win against Arkansas State on March 26.
The Bobcats and Ragin' Cajuns split a pair of three-set matches. First, Dench recorded her third victory overall and second win in her last four matches. She beat Drew by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the top-seeded match. Then, Rubio fell by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Burckhartt on the No. 3 court.
The Ragin' Cajuns clinched the victory when Carr suffered a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 loss against Sava in the No. 2 match before Collins suffered a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 against Johnson on the No. 4 court.
The loss drops Texas State's record to 7-11, and the Bobcats are 2-2 against Sun Belt Conference teams, while the Ragin' Cajuns are 9-9 overall and 1-3 in Sun Belt matches.
The Bobcats return to action this Sunday morning when they host No. 58-ranked UT Arlington at the Bobcat Tennis Complex at 10 a.m.
