Texas State Women's Tennis Falls 4-0 Against UTA SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team was in contention to win a pair of matches, but #58-ranked UT Arlington scored four points and beat the Bobcats 4-0 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Sunday morning.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches to capture the team point. The day began with
Katy Collins and
Ammaarah Tim suffering a 6-3 loss against Agustina Serio and Vaeria Lopez in the No. 3 match. The Mavericks clinched the team point after
Yadira Rubio and
Ana Perez fell by a score of 6-4 against Elizabeth Thoms and Angeles de los Rios on court 1.
The Bobcats had a chance to win the other doubles match when
Pippa Carr and
Eva Dench were leading Astrid Gehre and Jessica Birowski by a score of 5-4 before play stopped after the Mavericks had clinched the doubles point.
Texas State's other opportunity to win a match came in the No. 5 singles match when Perez held a 4-3 lead over Gehre in the second set after winning the first set by a score of 6-2.
Before she could clinch the win, the Mavericks clinched the victory by winning three other singles matches.
First, Dench suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss against Thoms in the top-seeded match just before Carr fell 6-2, 6-2 against de los Rios in the No. 2 match. UTA's final point came in the No. 6 match where Tim suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss against Carla Cerdan Vives.
The loss drops Texas State's overall record to 7-12 this season and the Bobcats finish the regular season with a 2-3 mark against Sun Belt Conference teams. Texas State closes out the regular season with its final home match against UT Rio Grande Valley on April 16 beginning at 10 a.m. The Bobcats also will honor senior
