Yadira Rubio,
Ana Perez and
Ammaarah Tim won their singles matches after Texas State earned the team doubles point to lead the women's tennis team to a 4-1 victory over Arkansas State in a neutral site match on the Cajun Courts.
The match began with senior
Katy Collins teaming with Tim to win a 6-1 doubles match against Chiara Stefanov and Sabina Jeresic on the No. 3 court.
Rubio and Perez combined to clinch the team doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Julie Gauguery and Victoria Roberts on the No. 1 court.
Texas State's
Eva Dench and
Pippa Carr also were winning their No. 2 doubles match against Victoria Pisani and Sofia Kromanovic before it was called after TXST had clinched the doubles point.
The Bobcats increased three lead to 3-0 when Perez and Rubio won their singles matches. First, Perez beat Kromanovic by a score of 6-1, 6-1 on court five. Then, Rubio won her No. 3 match against Stefanov by a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Arkansas State its lone point when Gauguery edged Dench by a score of 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 on the No. 1 court.
Tim came back to clinch the victory for the Bobcats when she beat Pisani by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 in the No. 6 match.
The victory is Texas State's second straight win and gives the Bobcats a 7-9 overall record and 2-1 mark against Sun Belt Conference teams this season.
Texas State will return to action when the Bobcats travel to San Antonio next Wednesday, March 30, for their I-35 rivalry match against UTSA beginning at 3 p.m.
