Auburn, Ala. – While the Texas State women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss, head coach
Tory Plunkett was pleased with the emergence of one of her freshmen players against No. 40-ranked Auburn on Sunday morning.
Joy Chia Ming Ming scored Texas State's lone point in the match when she won her singles match by a score of 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
"She did everything well by staying on the offensive," said Plunkett. "She used her forehand as a weapon and had some really good serves. She also was helping to coach her teammate in doubles."
Playing its third match on a road trip in Alabama, Texas State faced one of the best teams, if not the best team, on its schedule when the Bobcats traveled to Auburn.
The Tigers took control early when they earned the team point in doubles by winning all three matches.
First,
Katy Collins and
Eva Dench dropped a 6-0 decision against Andie Dikosavjevic and Alannah Griffin in the No. 2 match.
Then,
Ana Perez and
Yadira Rubio also suffered their first loss of the season as a No. 1 doubles team when they fell 6-1 against Alizee Michaud and Reka Muller.
Then,
Pippa Carr and Chia Ming Ming suffered a 6-1 loss against Pleun Burgmans and Caroline Turner in the No. 3 match.
In singles matches, Rubio moved to the No. 2 position and dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Burgmans. In the No. 3 match, Carr suffered a 6-0-, 6-1 loss against Griffin. Dench moved up a spot to the No. 1 position and suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback against Michaud.
