Bobcats Complete Competition at ACU Invite

ABILENE, Texas – Texas State women's tennis wrapped up its second fall tournament of the season at the ACU Invite, hosted by Abilene Christian University.

The Bobcats competed in a seven-team field that included Abilene Christian, North Texas, Tarleton State, UT Arlington, SMU and Texas Tech.

Women's Open Doubles
Flight A
Charlotte Roesch and Kinley VanPelt competed in Flight A, opening the tournament against Tarleton State's Aya Ishii and Anna Huisgen in the quarterfinals. Roesch and VanPelt earned a 6-3 victory to advance to the semifinals.

The duo then defeated Texas Tech's Ella Brownback and Teodora Prisadnikova, 6-4, to advance to the finals. Roesch and VanPelt battled North Texas' Ujin Batsukh and Maya Chen but fell 6-3.

Flight B
Juliette Jalai and Avery Arant competed in Flight B, opening with a 6-4 quarterfinal victory over UT Arlington's Vanja Cado and Diana Kaibara.

Jalai and Arant faced Texas Tech's Polina Sleptsova and Raegan Farm in the semifinals but fell 6-0. The duo closed out the tournament with a 7-6 (7-3) victory over Che Nel and Julia Ionescu.

Women's Open Singles
Flight A
Roesch faced Tarleton State's Aya Ishii in the opening round but fell 7-5, 6-4. She moved into the West Draw, where she fell to North Texas' Ujin Batsukh, 6-3, 6-2. Roesch then earned a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory over Abilene Christian's Julia Ionescu.

Flight B
Jalai opened against Texas Tech's Raegan Farm but fell 6-1, 7-5. In the West Draw, Jalai faced SMU's Natalie Stasny and fell 6-3, 6-0. She then dropped her final match against Abilene Christian's Victoria Correa, 6-3, 6-2.

Flight C
VanPelt opened Flight C with a 6-4, 6-1 quarterfinal victory over Abilene Christian's Alem Cote. She advanced to the semifinals against UT Arlington's Tasnime Ahamout, who took the first set 6-3 before VanPelt retired due to injury.

Arant faced UT Arlington's Flora Flarkaslaki Hints in the quarterfinals and earned a three-set victory, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8. She advanced to the semifinals, where she faced Giuliana Ciangherotti in another three-set battle before falling 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Arant closed out the tournament with another three-set victory over Abilene Christian's Alejandra Corroto Etchenique, winning 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.

Flight D
Julia Richardet opened Flight D against UT Arlington's Maria Isabel Suarez and fell 6-4, 6-0. Richardet moved into the West Draw, where she faced Tarleton State's Aruzhan Nuranbay and fell 4-6, 6-1, 6-10. Richardet then faced UT Arlington's Vanja Cado in her final match, falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Texas State will return to action Oct. 2 when it hosts the River State Shoot-Out at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
