Women's Tennis Defeats Incarnate Word 6-1

SAN ANTONIO - The Texas State women's tennis team posted its first win of the season when the Bobcats defeated Incarnate Word by the score of 6-1 at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
For the third time in the last four matches, Texas State opened its match winning the team doubles point with 6-3 victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.Eva Dench and Katy Collins combined to defeat Taryn Strahl and Sarah Savedra in the No. 2 match. Then, Pippa Carr teamed with Joy Chia Ming Ming to beat Matea Zemunik and Antea Dedic in the No. 3 match.
                                                                                                                                                                                         
After Texas State won those two matches, the top-seeded doubles match was halted with Yadira Rubio and Ana Perez leading Rachel Sadiq and Victoria Kareh by a score of 4-3.
 
The Bobcats came back to win five of the six singles matches during the day as Carr, Perez and Chia Ming Ming won their matches in straight sets. First, Chia Ming Ming won the No. 6-seeded match by a score of 6-0, 6-2 over Maria Batchinsky. Perez also defeated Savedra by a score of 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 5 match, while Carr beat Kareh by a score of 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 match.
 
Texas State's final two points came with Dench and Collins coming back to win the top-seeded singles match after dropping the first set in their two matches.
 
Dench dropped the first set of the No. 1 singles match by a score of 6-2 against Sadiq before coming back to win the second set by a score of 6-3 and capturing the third set by a score of 6-4.
 
Collins also dropped the first set of her No. 4 match against Strahl by the score of 6-2. She came back to win the second set by a score of 6-4 and won the third set by a score of 6-1.
 
UIW's single point in the match came when Zemunik won the second-seeded match by a score of 6-0, 6-3 against Rubio.
 
Following Saturday's victory, Texas State travels to Ruston, La. for a match at Louisiana Tech on Feb. 19. The Bobcats also play a pair of matches at Northwestern State and against Alcorn State in Natchitoches, La. the next day.
