San Marcos, Texas –The Texas State women's tennis team will be looking for its first win of the season when the Bobcats travel to San Antonio and play Incarnate Word this Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Bobcats enter Saturday's match with a 0-4 record after dropping three matches in Alabama last weekend. Texas State suffered a 6-1 loss at South Alabama on Feb. 5, 6-1 against Nicholls State on Feb. 6 in Mobile and 6-1 at No. 40-ranked Auburn on Feb. 7.
The Bobcats captured the team doubles points against South Alabama and Nicholls State, while freshman Joy Chia Ming Ming (Singapore) won her singles match against Sofia Blanno of No. 40-ranked Auburn in straight sets. Joy won the No. 6 match after winning a first set tiebreaker by a score of 7-5 and came back to win the second set by the same 7-5 score. Texas State began last week winning two of the three doubles matches at South Alabama and the top two-seeded doubles matches against Nicholls State. In the first match against South Alabama, Yadira Rubio and Ana Perez won by a score of 6-2 in the top-seeded match.
Eva Dench and
Katy Collins won the No. 2 match by a score of 6-4 while
Pippa Carr and
Ammaarah Tim dropped the No. 3 match by a score of 6-0.
Rubio and Perez also came back to win a 7-5 decision in a No. 1 match against Nicholls State, while Collins and Dench also won by a score of 6-3 in the No. 2 match.
Incarnate Word will be playing two home matches this weekend when it hosts South Dakota State on Friday and Texas State on Saturday. The Cardinals enter the weekend with a 0-3 record after dropping a 7-0 decision at Texas on Feb. 3 and a pair of 6-1 losses at UL Lafayette on Jan. 23 and UTSA on Jan. 31.
