FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After two weeks off, Texas State Cross Country traveled to Fayetteville, Ark., to compete in the prestigious Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival. The men finished eighth overall to be the third Sun Belt Conference team behind Arkansas State and Little Rock, beating teams like LSU, Central Arkansas, Creighton, UL Lafayette and Abilene Christian. Meanwhile, the women's team beat Baylor and UL Lafayette.
Joseph Pena led the way for the Bobcat men with a time of 25:10.38 in the 8K. His time put him 62
nd in a field of 466.
Logan Pittdman wasn't far behind with a time of 25:13.66.
Jose Angel Gonzalez helped the team run in a tight pack among the top three, finishing just five seconds later with a time of 25:18.96.
Also scoring points for the Bobcat men were
Kyle Denomme (25:53.32),
Alec Saucedo (26:05.96),
Joseph Meade (26:11.00) and
Jordan Janer (26:34.59).
Leading the women was freshman
Devina Schneider, finishing 77
th out of 436. She ran a time of 18:05.74 in the 5K race.
Nikki Sanchez was next to finish for the Bobcats with a time 18:21.68.
Belinda Aguilar finished just less than a minute later at 19:18.29 while
Gabriela Ortegon finished in 19:36.72. The rest of the point-scorers included
Sarah Arroyo (19:41.57) and
Chelsea Thompson (19:56.04),
The Bobcats have one more meet as a final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Texas State will compete Saturday at the UIW Invitational in Live Oak, Texas, before traveling to Atlanta for the conference championships.
