SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team returns home to begin a three-game home stand on Thursday evening against Georgia Southern at 7:30 p.m. It is the second meeting of the year between the Bobcats and Eagles, after Georgia Southern won 40-36 in Statesboro on Jan. 3.
The meeting between Texas State and Georgia Southern accounted for the lowest combined scoring game in Sun Belt Conference history and the 19th lowest in Division I during the shot clock era. Both teams shot 30 percent or fewer and the seventh leading scorer in the country at the time, Jelani Hewitt was just 1-of-8.
JaMarcus Weatherspoon has been a big rebounding presence of late for the Bobcats, combining for 19 boards over his last two games, including a career-high 10 against UT Arlington on Monday.
Scouting Georgia Southern
The Eagles will come into San Marcos 11-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The aforementioned Hewitt is now 10th in the country in scoring at 20.5 points per game, and fifth in the NCAA in steals at 2.8 per game.
As a team, Georgia Southern has been proficient at both ends of the floor. The Eagles are currently second in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring offense at 73.3 points per game, and third in defense at 61.7 points per game allowed.
