Box Score SAN MARCOS – Texas State suffered a 3-2 loss to UALR on Senior Day Sunday, dropping the series 2-1 for just the second home series loss this season. The loss drops the Bobcats to 28-23 on the season and 16-11 in Sun Belt Conference play headed into the final week of the regular season.
Â
It was a pitcher's duel through the first four innings with neither team able to get much in the way of baserunners. The fifth inning, however, was a different story when Bryson Thionnet of UALR broke the scoreless tie with a straight away home run to center, giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Â
Texas State got its first base runner of the game in the bottom of the fifth, when
Granger Studdard was hit by a pitch.
Austin O'Neal was the next batter and got the team's first hit when he doubled to the right center gap to score Studdard, tying the game at 1-1.
Â
The Trojans were back at it in the top of the sixth, hitting a leadoff home run for the second straight inning, this time a shot to right center by Austin Pfeiffer giving the Trojans the lead back at 2-1. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, that is not all the damage that would be done in the inning as Tanner Rockwell and Thionnet hit back-to-back doubles, to score another run.
Â
Texas State looked to have a big rally started in the bottom of the eighth as the first two runners reached via a walk and hit by pitch.
Taylor Bailey came in and hit a rocket to first base that deflected off the Trojan first baseman directly to the second baseman who was able to make the play at first for the 3-4-3 putout. The runners moved to second and third on the play.
Colby Targun pinch hit next, and had an RBI groundout to short, making it 3-2 following eight innings. That would be the final.
Â
The Bobcats will look to bounce back in the final week of the regular season with a midweek game at Texas followed by a road series at UT Arlington.
