Houston, Texas- The Texas State women's tennis team returns to the road when the Bobcats travel to Houston to play against No. 33-ranked Houston Cougars on the John Hoff Courts on Wednesday, April 9, at 2:00 p.m.
The Bobcats enter the match with an 8-9 overall record after suffering three straight losses away from San Marcos. Texas State suffered losses at UTSA, SMU and against Middle Tennessee State in Arlington, Texas. The Bobcats are 3-1 against Sun Belt Conference teams this season.
Houston enters the match with an overall record of 16-4 after defeating No. 31 DePaul last Saturday. The win against the Blue Demons gives the Cougars have five wins over nationally-ranked teams this season. The other wins came against No. 63 North Texas, No. 40 Washington, No. 59 Washington State and No. 17 Tulsa.
Looking at Texas StateJessica Kahts still leads the Bobcats as the No. 1 player with a 10-6 record. She and
Ana Laura Gutierrez are 8-6 in No. 1 doubles play matches.
Monica Pieratt teams with
Shannon Beckett as Texas State's No. 2 doubles team and are 7-6 this season after splitting their last two matches. They beat UTSA's Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Alena Shichkova 8-6 before falling to SMU's Holly Verner and Hristina Dishkova by a score of 8-1.
Beckett is currently 9-7 after winning each her last three singles matches against Jess Heeps-Erikson of Arkansas State (6-3, 7-5), Lina Hallgren of UTSA (6-1, 6-3) and Flavia Nagayama of Middle Tennessee (6-3, 6-3).
Eva Dench is 10-5 in singles play and going 2-1 in her last three matches. She has wins over Arkansas State and Middle Tennessee and a loss against UTSA.
Dench and
Katy Collins are 9-3 in doubles as they defeated Arkansas State and UTSA in their last two matches.
Looking at HoustonDespoina Vogasari leads the Cougars in singles and doubles play with an 11-4 singles record in No.1 matches and 8-5 doubles record with Elena Kordolaimi as the No. 1 doubles team. Vogasari is nationally ranked at No. 92 in singles play.
Kordolaimi plays for the Cougars No. 2 spot with a 9-4 record. Also playing at No. 2 is Celia Fraser 1-2 and Maria Cardenas 1-0. Cardenas also competes on the No. 3 court with a 7-3 record while Tina Rupert is 2-0.
Houston recently defeated No. 31 DePaul 4-2 on April 6 and will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on April 12 after playing Texas State.
