TROY, Ala. – In the rubber game of the three-game series, the Texas State softball team fell to the Troy Trojans by a score of 2-0. The Bobcats stranded seven runners in the contest while recording four hits.
 
Texas State started the contest off strong, recording back-to-back singles with nobody out by Kelli Baker and Timishia North. Baker and North made their way to second and third after a sacrifice bunt by Courtney Harris, but failed to score as Troy retired the next two batters in order.
 
Troy led off the first three innings of the day with hits, including a triple in the first inning. The Bobcat defense stepped up in the first and second innings, retiring the Trojans in order after the lead-off hit.
 
In the bottom of the third inning, however, the Trojans capitalized on a lead-off double, scoring one after a stolen base and sacrifice bunt combination.
 
After a scoreless fourth inning, Troy scored once again in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to two. The Trojans led the inning off once again with a single and proceeded to steal second to give Troy a runner in scoring position with no outs. Two sacrifice bunts later scored that runner originally on second, giving Troy a 2-0 lead.
 
In the top of the seventh inning, the Bobcats led the inning off with a single by Kendall Wiley, but struggled to advance Wiley's pinch runner, Danielle Warne, any further than second base.
 
Rayn House was credited with the loss as she fell to 20-18 overall and 6-7 in conference play. The Bobcats are now 23-29 on the year and 6-12 in conference play.
 
Katie Doerre recorded the Bobcat hit in fourth inning of play.
 
The Bobcats will take the week off before hosting UT Arlington next weekend for the final regular season series. Texas State will play a doubleheader against the Mavericks on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday starting at 12 p.m.
